Do I Qualify to Be an Egg Donor?

We’d love to say yes to every young woman who’d like to donate her eggs to help as many families as we possibly can achieve their dreams of starting a family. But, the simple reality is, it is in everyone’s best interests if certain guidelines for egg donors are met. So, you want to donate, and you’re wondering if you qualify.

There are 2 major recipient questions we must take into consideration as a responsible egg donation provider:

  1. What genes do they want to pass down to their children?
  2. What type of donor maximizes the chances of success?

Below is a basic list of requirements to use as a guideline:

  • Between the ages of 20 and 29
  • No history of substance abuse
  • Have a maximum BMI of 28
  • Non-smoker
  • Non-recreational drug user
  • Psychologically healthy
  • Have both ovaries
  • No current use of psychiatric medications
  • Willing to take injectable medications
  • Dependable and mature
  • Punctual and able to attend required appointments
  • Genuinely interested in helping couples fulfill their dream

At Egg Donor Select, we view the young women who help others by donating their eggs as blessings. Going through the process of becoming an egg donor can seem overwhelming. We will work with you to make it a positive and fulfilling experience.

Without young women like you, many loving couples who are ready to start a family have little hope.

Here are some comments frequently heard from donors who have completed the egg donation process….

I have a family member who was infertile and saw how hard it was for them. This was such a rewarding way to help others like my family. ”

The cycle went by so quickly… I was initially a bit scared, but everyone was so helpful. I am excited to participate again!”

I can’t think of a better way to help a couple while also helping me pay for my education.”

I was so excited to hear about the development of egg banking and being able to participate without needing to be first selected by a couple.”

If this seems like it might be right for you, and you want more information or have questions, we would love to hear from you.

Fun Fact… Ask me About

How donors used to have to inject a pellet through 18-gauge needles into muscle everyday! Now, it’s a piece of cake with insulin-sized needles.

About the Author:

Julie Rash owns and operates Egg Donor Select, Inc. Julie’s experience in the infertility industry dates back to 1989 with a pharmaceutical and biotechnology career at TAP Pharmaceuticals and EMD Serono.

As one of five Serono practice expansion consultants, Julie assisted fertility clinics to help improve patient and employee relations, operations, and marketing outreach.

During this period, the inevitable happened…. Julie and her husband, Tom, learned they would need their own assistance to achieve their dream of having a family. It took some time, but with God’s blessing, came four beautiful “rugrats”…. our son, Freddie, and triplets – Sean, Maggie and Lucy.

The world of egg donation was introduced to Julie in 2003, and it was an “Aha!” moment. All of the paths taken before connected. God works in mysterious and wonderful ways.
